They decided that their society would be called “Gesang Verein Harmonia”, which means harmonious singing society. Their purpose would be “To awaken and promote the sense for the beautiful and noble, especially among the younger generation”. Founding members include John Fischer (president), Carl J. Stopper, Harry A. Staib, Sebastian Fischer, Michael Graf, William C. Willman, Julius Glunk, Anton Staib, Adam Beiter, Edward Staib, and Henry Graf.

For many years, the clubroom was open only on Sunday afternoons or during the week for singing rehearsals, meetings, or special occasions. During this time tickets were used to buy, selling at a cost of 4 for 25cents.
